European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drugs Addiction (EMCDDA) is one of the European Union`s decentralised agencies. It was established in 1993 and based in Lisbon. It is the central source of comprehensive information on drugs and drug addiction in Europe. The German Centre for Addiction Issues (DHS), the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA) and the Institute for Therapy Research (IFT) build the German Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (DBDD), which is the national counterpart of the EMCDDA. The three institutions work as National Focal Point of the REITOX network, the IFT assuming also coordinating functions. Within the Focal Point DHS is responsible for the working areas "Addiction Treatment" and "Harm Reduction".

Annually a National Reitox Report which corresponds to the guidelines of EMCDDA and an Annual Report on the State of the Drugs Problem in Europe are published. the participating institutions (IFT, BZgA and DHS) collect information from their working areas and produce the report together.
