24.10.2007Building Capacity Project - First meeting From 24th to 26th September 2007 the first meeting of all project partners and members of the alcohol policy network took place in Bled, Slovenia. The meeting was well prepared and organized by the multi-national steering committee, and hosted by the Slovenian Ministry of Health. The 31 country partners, 10 European organisations, and guests from the research and practice field discussed 10 work packages embodied in the project, and the next steps for work package leaders and cooperating partners. Representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Commission (EC) described their frameworks and initiatives related to alcohol and alcohol policy in Europe. A series of presentations given by guest speakers on prevention of alcohol-related accidents and injuries such as ‘Inequalities, accidents and injuries, and alcohol’, ‘Violence and injury prevention’, ‘Domestic violence and alcohol’, and ‘Alcohol and Suicide’ enriched the agenda. An important milestone of the project will be the European Alcohol Policy Conference “Building Capacity for Action” in Barcelona 3rd-5th April 2008.
